Ustaad Bhagat Singh Box Office: Pre-Release Business Reaches ₹127 Crore, 29% Lower Than OG

The upcoming Tollywood action entertainer Ustaad Bhagat Singh, starring Pawan Kalyan, is one of the most anticipated Telugu releases of 2026. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19, and fans of the Powerstar are eagerly waiting for its release.

Despite the excitement among fans, the film’s pre-release theatrical business has closed at a noticeably lower level compared to Pawan Kalyan’s previous big project They Call Him OG. Industry reports suggest that the film’s overall pre-release deals have reached around ₹127 crore worldwide.

This figure is approximately 29% lower than the ₹180 crore business recorded by OG, indicating relatively moderate market expectations.

Reasons Behind The Lower Buzz

One of the main reasons behind the comparatively lower business is the difference in pre-release hype. When They Call Him OG was announced, it quickly became one of the most talked-about projects in Tollywood due to its strong promotional content and high expectations.

In contrast, Ustaad Bhagat Singh has not generated the same level of excitement. The film’s music album has not delivered any chart-topping songs so far, and the recently released trailer has received a mixed response from audiences.

Another factor influencing the buzz is that the film is reportedly a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Theri, which originally starred Vijay. In recent years, several remakes have struggled at the box office, making such projects a slightly risky proposition.

The film will also face competition from the upcoming spy thriller Dhurandhar 2, which is witnessing strong demand across multiple markets, including the Telugu states.

Regional Distribution Deals

The majority of the film’s theatrical business has come from the Telugu states. Reports suggest that the distribution rights in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together are valued at around ₹106 crore.

The breakdown of the Telugu market deals includes:

  • Andhra region rights valued at around ₹55 crore
  • Ceeded region rights estimated at ₹16 crore
  • Nizam territory rights sold for about ₹35 crore

Outside the Telugu states, the distribution rights for the rest of India are estimated at ₹8.5 crore, while the overseas market rights are valued at around ₹12.5 crore.

Combined together, the film’s worldwide theatrical business stands at approximately ₹127 crore.

Breakeven Target At The Box Office

Based on the current distribution deals, Ustaad Bhagat Singh is expected to achieve breakeven if it earns around ₹200 crore gross worldwide at the box office.

From a domestic performance perspective, trade estimates suggest that the film will need around ₹150 crore net in India to enter the safe zone.

Reports indicate that the film has been produced on a budget of roughly ₹150 crore, meaning it must recover its production cost through theatrical earnings to avoid being labeled a financial disappointment.

With its theatrical release just days away, the opening weekend collections will play a crucial role in determining whether Ustaad Bhagat Singh can meet its ambitious box office targets.
